I learned about overcoming obstacles in the book, The Circuit. Torito was the baby of the family and he got really sick. Torito started bleeding and throwing up. The family took him to the hospital and they could not afford the hospital bills. The doctor told them that he had a rare disease. The family started praying in order to heal Torito and it worked. Another obstacle they overcame was in the the second book, Breaking through, the family’s house was burning. Francisco and Roberto had accidentally burned the house down because their dad bought cheap gasoline that spread when it was poured. The fire got out of control and burned their house down. These are some of the obstacles that Francisco and his family encountered.

Comment: In the book, The Circuit the characters overcome obstacles. Francisco and his family had to cross the border illegally. They were immigrants with no money and had to live in a camp with other immigrants. The camp was called Tent City. It was a challenge to be in a new place with no privacy.
In the second book, Breaking Through La Migra (immigration police) caught Francisco and his family. They were sent back to Mexico. When they got to Mexico, the family fixed their paperwork to return to the United States with permission. Francisco was now able to go to school. He learned how to speak English and years later got a scholarship to go to college. Nothing stopped Francisco and he was able to accomplish his goal of going to college.

In the Circuit, Francisco and is family were immigrants. They crossed the border illegally from Mexico to California. Francisco went to school, but he faced a big problem because he did not speak English. He also had to miss school because he needed to help his father pick cotton. His mom had a baby named “Torito” and got very sick. The family took Torito to the hospital. Luckily, Torito was saved but the family needed to work harder to get money to pay the medical bills. Francisco went through many obstacles as an immigrant but he managed to graduate high school and receive a scholarship. Francisco loved his family, together they overcame their struggles and promised never to leave them. He visited them every Saturday.

The person that Alexis was talking about reached their goal.

TOday I am talking to you about immigration. The reason why this is such a big problem is this not the land of the free or of opportunity if people from other countries can be banned from coming here if in the past they had stayed longer than three months. I need you to stop thinking that the people who came to the United States hundrends of years ago are the best. Everyone in the United States was an immigrant family at one time. This important to all of us because the ideas that made the United States are worthless if they are not followed.

Comment: I read the Immigration issue of the kids discover, Immigration is a global problem. Kid’s lose their parents because their deported, parents lose their families because they don’t have papers. In reality we’re all immigrants because our ancestors aren’t from here unless your ancestors are native americans, then you are indigenous to this land. People get deported because their not from here, but neither are we. You can be born in america but your ancestors aren’t from here. so in reality none of us belong here.

Comment: I read an article on immigration called “Around The World” in the Kids Discover journal. In the article, it says that over 125 MILLION people are moved from their birth country. About 20% of these immigrated people are refugees who have been forced to leave their homes by war or natural disasters. In 1986, Pakistan had more refugees than any other nation on Earth. Canada, Australia, and Israel are largely populated by immigrants.

Comment:I read the Kids Discover issue called Immigrants and i think that it is sad because some people get left behind if they don’t have papers and they never get to see their family members and friends. If you don’t have money then you can’t go to another place and i don’t think the united states should be called the land of freedom because people can’t go anywhere they want just because they don’t have papers.

Comment: I read the kids discover immigration issue and i think that immigration is bad because most of the people who immigrated just want to have a successful life to succeed in life and some people who immigrated have kids and they come here to give the kid happiness freedom and they want the kid to go to school so they’ll have a good education so they’ll go to college because in the end what the parents want is for the kids to have a better life than they did.

Kids should not be sad because someone got deported. As a community we should stop.People should be treated differently just because they don’t come or were born the same place. We are the same and equalt treated.

Comment: Today I am talking to you about immigration. The reason why this is such a big is because some people come to America, like in Esperanza Rising, and get rejected and sent back to where they came from. They become split up from their family and live a horrible life. I need you to try, at least, to try and change this. Talk to people and ask them if they would like living without their family. Ask them to help change immigration. This is important to all of us because if something happens, you might never see your family again. Dunnnn Dunnn Dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Comment: There are a lot of immigration problems in the US.

Many illegal immigrants cross the border unnoticed, I think that should be fixed.

I also think it’s not the immigrant’s fault, they need a better life, people say, “Oh if you want a better life, get a legal Visa.” They can’t they don’t have the money to, that’s why they go to America.

Comment: I learned that people who were from different countries were treated differently because of their race, color, and gender. I learned this from that human rights were being violated. Men and women had to use the bathroom out in the open and they weren’t paid enough on the job.He went on a hunger strike for three weeks because they wouldn't listen to what he was saying about raising their pay. Cesar Chavez wouldn't quit what they started because it was important to them. Five years later they won the strike and got fair pay for their hard work.

Comment:I think that Emily's paragraph is good because it talks about how Fransisco goes to school and he misses school for five years. I also liked that she talks about Fransisco crossing the border illegally and was caught by the immigration officers (La Migra). It seems like a scary experience.

Comment:

There are many illegal immigrants in our country that get treated like aliens, many that are deported each day. Some are even educated in America and can't get a job. Some people cross border like from mexico to america to see their families. Some countries don't even care, like Spain but America and the UK do. On the border many holes are dug and other attempts to ge over. Many people are desperate to get a citizenship.
